Fans of the 1990 cult TV series “Twin Peaks” will recognise the catchphrase, told several times to Agent Dale Cooper – but these little ceramic owls are trinket-holders based on a Cambodian pot from the early 12th Century that Lois Wakeman saw pictured in a book. Like most potters, she’s a magpie for designs and patterns from all over the world and any century!
It’s hard to imagine an artisan 900 years ago coming up with a design that looks as fresh as if it was done yesterday! Reinterpreted in terracotta with slip decoration and coloured glazes.
Only £25 to enjoy a reminder of ceramic history…
Members’ autumn exhibition
TMAG members are showing fine art – paintings, etchings, and drawings, plus some 3D work including ceramics.
In the upstairs gallery from 30 October to 20 November. Open daily from 10.30-4.30, free admission.

The South West Textile Group (SWTG) is a contemporary ‘textile hub’ for the South West. As a point of exchange for people who love making, thinking or talking textiles the range of techniques and materials that textile artists employ to create original work never ceases to amaze.
Members of SWTG employ a fantastic range of techniques and materials from woven and stitched beach detritus and metals, wool and felt to machine and fine hand embroideries to create original work.
The dual exhibition ‘Suspension and Talisman’ with recent work from members reflects big, exciting ideas and creative ingenuity that constantly pushes the boundaries of what is possible often with wry humour, the stunning work in this exhibition is fun, colourful, delicate and yet also bold. You are invited to view this inspirational textile art show and take the opportunity to chat to a few of the artists whose work is featured.

Shared Space Different Views
Nicola Dennis says ‘From Fri 30th August I and my friends Eddie Burrows and Steve Collins are hosting an exhibition in the Courtyard Gallery at the Town Mill. Our exhibition “Shared Space Different Views” will portray three very different ways of interpreting our beautiful West Country landscape and the wildlife within. As we are all new, this year, to TMAG, it will be our first exhibition and it would be wonderful to be able to meet as many other members as possible during our three week exhibition and to put names to faces. Please come and say hello and have a look at what we are doing. Your support would be much appreciated and would make our first flight into the world of exhibiting a little less daunting.’
One of the principle aims of TMAG is to help new artists into the exciting, but somewhat offputting, world of exhibiting – so do come along and see how much new exhibitors can achieve!
